A one-day workshop held in Douala last week, bringing together agricultural and livestock stakeholders.
Hoes, cutlasses, files, wheelbarrows, insecticides, seedlings and fertilisers, amongst others, constituted a list of items handed over to some 39 beneficiaries operating in the agriculture and livestock sectors within the Littoral Region.
The initiative by the National Food Security Programme implemented under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, marked the end of a one-day training workshop, regrouping food production actors. Drawn from associations, Common Initiative Groups (CIGs) and cooperatives, the number of recipients based on domains of activity was as follows: maize 10, cassava 10, poultry 13, piggery 3, food processing 1 and manual wells 2.
The symbolic award ceremony that held at the Littoral Regional Delegation of Agriculture and Rural Development on Thursday July 25, 2013 was presided at by the Head of Division for Economic, Social and Cultural Affairs at the Littoral Governor's Office, Joseph Elongo.
According to the Regional Coordination of the National Food Security Programme, Albert Kokoute, the gesture adds to government's strife, with the aid of international partners, to attain Millennium Development Goal Number One, stressing on reducing hunger and famine. After Douala, the official handing-over ceremony in the other three Littoral Divisional headquarters will follow suit.
