As the entire North West Region took to the streets on Saturday February 7, 2015 in a solidarity march with the Head of State, Paul Biya in the war against Boko Haram, the population of Nkar fondom in Jakiri subdivision, Bui division of the north-west region has been urged to accompany president Paul Biya in his effort to preserve peace, especially through fighting the Islamic sect Boko Haram.

The call was made by Fon Molo II of Nkar on Friday February 6, 2015, on sixth day of an annual cultural festival to celebrate the departed traditional ruler of the Fondom.

In an address to his subjects, the Fon of Nkar pointed out that though the Fondom is in the third year of celebration of the death Fon Tumi Tani, a ritual which will run for twelve years, the most important thing is that the children of the Fondom were coming together as one.

He went on to say that for there to be any meaningful development in the area, the indigenes must be united and think together. He added that this unity and thinking cannot be exclusive of the Head of State, president Paul Biya’s call for peace.

In this light, he urged the sons and daughters of Nkar to add their voices to that of all other Cameroonians to denounce the heinous activities of the dreaded sect, Boko Haram.

He said the children of Nkar in and out of the village must be actively involved in the fight against Boko Haram in all its forms. To march words with action, Fon Molo II announced that the DO for Jakiri subdivision had invited him to be part of a solidarity march against Boko Haram which was to take place all over the region.

He thus urged the population of the village to come out massively and be part of the march. Corroborating the Fon of Nkar, Fon Sintieh Nelson of Oku who answered present with a huge delegation explained that over the past years, he and the Fon of the neighbouring village of Nkar have constructed brotherly and friendly ties that cannot be taken for granted.

The traditional reunion which ran from February 1st to 9th February 2015 featured activities such as traditional sacrifices, ecumenical service, march pass by widows association of Nkar, tug of war, display of traditional masquerades etc.

Bakundus endorse anti-terrorism act In another development, the people of Bakundu, a tribe in Meme Division of the South West Region, under the canopy of the Bakundu Cultural and Development Union BACDU, have thrown their support to the Head of State, President Paul Biya, for promulgating into Law, the anti-terrorism act, despite the numerous criticisms from some opinion leaders.

During the BACDU 40th Annual Congress that took place at Kokaka in Konye Sub-Division recently, the President General of BACDU, Hon Justice Benjamin Itoe who also doubles as Board Chairman of the Cameroon Development Corporation CDC, called on his kith’s and kins to rally behind the Head of State, President Paul Biya, to fight against terrorism especially the Boko Haram sect which is a threat to National peace and security.

Justice Benjamin Itoe observed that, “Cameroon is an island of peace in a sub-region of conflicts characterized by genocide and bloodshed, and thus the move by the Head of State to eradicate any terrorist group trying to perturb this peace is very much welcome and the Bakundu’s are even much happy than any other tribe by this stand of the nation.”

He equally noted that, “I have already urged and I am reiterating that, our chiefs and all our population be vigilant in their communities or wherever they may find themselves in the country and look out for suspicious persons whom they should immediately hand over to our administrative authorities and the forces of law and order, for verification of their status”.

Another highlight of the ceremony that was characterized by traditional displays by the 36 villages that make up the Bakundu tribe was the decoration of some Bakundu elite for their role in the development of the tribe.
