News making rounds at the Nguelemendouka grammar school, Upper Nyong is about tutors who have embezzled FCFA 2.3 million from PTA funds.

This has caused three teachers to quit their jobs abandoning students to their fate.

The president of the PTA, John Paul Ekanga, was placed in charge of money collection for expenses etc. One Erick Desire Yiya was also involved in the management of the PTA funds.

But the headmaster Mathurin Ayek Mvomo, at a point, realised that an amount of FCFA 2,274,750 has been pocketed by the duo. It ater emerged that they first took FCFA 1,319,000 and later FCFA 940,700. "In January we had challenges paying wages owed community teachers and regular teachers," said the headmaster.

He therefore, contacted the president of the PTA, who made contributions into an account opened for this purpose.

It was during this time that Mr. Ayek Mvomo found out that, payment of amounts FCFA 7 million, FCFA 461,000, and FCFA 700, had not been fully paid into the account opened for this purpose.

"These funds were collected by the tutor in charge and donated by the president of the PTA in the account at Express Union. Interestingly, Out of the 12 transactions made by the President, four payment transactions did not reflect the actual amounts, "added our source.

Early February, there were romours from the teachers particularly because they had not been paid for some months. Faced with this situation, the headmaster had to take measures to dialogue with those in charge of the funds.

He summoned the two teachers for an update on the financial statement. They first denied, and blamed inaccuracies on overcharging and accusing the headmaster. The sub-prefect was informed. Still, no solution was found.

The arbitration of the Departmental Delegate of Secondary Education was informed about the matter.

On April 22, Messing Messing chaired a crisis meeting at the grammar school where they finally acknowledged that they stole some of the money.

They were immediately suspended from duty and ordered to pay the funds. Following this, three part-time teachers have abandoned their jobs, leaving students to their fate.
