Recently, the Mayor of Garoua 1 Council Mr. Mohamadou Kaou visited the U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé, where he was welcomed by Public Affairs Officer Roberto Quiroz II and Information Resource Center Director Mathias Tientcheu.

During the visit, the Mayor and Mr. Quiroz signed a renewal of partnership between the American Corner and the Municipal Library of Garoua 1 which will continue to serve Cameroonian youth. “We thank the U.S. Department of State for sponsoring the American Corner that so greatly contributes to promote education and access to information for youth in my constituency.

As a public servant I am committed to serving my fellow citizens in Garoua to promote development and their interests. The American Corner is widely patronized by youth because it offers good quality and quantity of services and materials, including free internet access. We look forward to our continued cooperation.”

Mr. Quiroz welcomed the Mayor, thanked him for his leadership and support, and presented him with a book on New York City, adding: “The United States Department of State is committed to promoting quality education and mutual understanding through American Corners worldwide.

They provide, as their name state, a ‘corner’ of the United States through access to free internet, books, DVD’s, and academic counseling services. We are proud that the Garoua Municipal Library hosts an American Corner that is valued and appreciated by the community, and we look forward to expanding even further our outreach program among your constituents.”
