Recently, Ambassador Michael S. Hoza visited the Nguon Festival in Foumban, where he attended community cultural celebrations and ceremonies hosted by the Sultan of Bamoun, His Royal Highness al-Hajj Sultan Ibrahim Mbombo Njoya.
The three day event included an opening ceremony attended by thousands of residents, tourists, and visitors from throughout Cameroon, the ritual entry of Mfona Nguon, the ritual ceremony of the Sultan’s judgment with processions of Cameroonian chiefs, a great concert with traditional music and dance, and a banquet hosted by the Sultan which featured local musical performers and dancers.
The Ambassador’s visit underscored the United States’ commitment to strengthen its ties with Cameroonians and to support cultural heritage programs in partnership with Cameroonians.
The Ambassador noted: “Cameroon is a nation rich in its unique cultural heritage and traditions. It was an honor to visit with His Royal Highness the Sultan and to meet the many Cameroonians who attended the festival to celebrate their cultural heritage identity and traditions.”
