Léonard Ringsou, a village head was stabbed by a deaf-mute on 11th February at Datcheka. Léonard Ringsou, 3rd degree chief at Kankarwa village, Datcheka district was stabbed just at the end of demonstrations marking the National Youth Day on 11th February, in the Department of Mayo-Danay.
The incident took place at the municipal stadium, venue for the activities. In fact, the chief of Kankarwa, his sub-chiefs and friends were under a large tree just around the area of the event.
Among those who surrounded him was Binglai Helinga, a deaf from Gangaland, a neighbouring village. Everything went well until 5 pm, when, Binglai Helinga suddenly drew a dagger and stabbed Léonard Ringsou.
The victim died before he reached the health center which is less than one kilometre away. On the field, deaf attempted suicide by driving the knife into his own belly.
Alerted, the sub-prefect of Datcheka, Daniel Wanié, visited the place accompanied by the Mayor of the municipality to restore order. Investigation have been open to find the reason behind this murder.
However, the Mayor of the commune of Datcheka, Gnaga Horokbe, have sent the culprit to the regional hospital in Yagoua.
At the hospital, it was indicated that he is responding to treatment. The remains of the head of the village, Léonard Ringsou, is currently at the mortuary of the hospital. He died at age 52, leaving behind a wife and several children.
