Women Drilled on Risk Prevention

The Littoral Region celebrated World Disaster Prevention day yesterday October 30.

"Young girls and women, invisible forces of Resilience" was the theme of celebrations marking World Disaster Prevention Day that held at the banquet hall of the Littoral Governor's Office yesterday. Representing the Governor, the Head of Division for Economic, Social and Cultural Affairs, Elongo Joseph explained that the womenfolk, constituting 52% of the world's population, is mostly affected during disasters. Consequently, the need to sensitise and build their capacities in risk prevention and management is imminent.

Meanwhile the Regional Delegate of Women's Empowerment and the Family, Elong Emilienne Alice announced the creation of a platform, aimed at collected recommendations for onward transmission to hierarchy. The main goal is the inclusion of women in disaster management. According to her, women's strides with regards to risk prevention and management have remained oblivious. This will be done through collaboration with women group and associations, non-governmental organisations, schools and the government through the Department of Civil Protection, under the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation.
