The celebration of the International Women’s Day is more than just the wearing of fabrics, dining and dancing.

This message was echoed by the Fako Divisional Delegate of Women Empowerment and the Family, Madam Fonkwe Judith, in a preparatory meeting ahead of the forthcoming 30th international Women’s day. The meeting was held at the Limbe I council hall on Thursday, February, 5, chaired by Fako’s First Assistant Divisional Officer, Lokombe Vincent.

Speaking during the meeting, Lokombe Vincent called for constructive contributions from participants for a successful 2015 women’s day.

He added that for these preparations to be effective, various committees must be put in place to ensure the smooth running of the celebrations. He insisted that committees be set up and adopted immediately.

On her part, Mme Fonkwe Judith emphasized that the international day for women “should not just be a day to show off with new dresses, having much to eat and drink and all the like” but that it has far more significance.

The divisional delegate recalled that the origin of the celebrations which took place in the USA was to call for the equality of women, political and social rights, and improvement on their working conditions.

She insisted that women must know these facts and stand by them, making the men aware of the important role women play in the development and growth of the society thus reflecting the motto “equality, development, and peace”.

She therefore, called on women to celebrate while bearing in mind, the true reason behind the celebration of the international day for women.

Various committees were thus set up. These included the Coordination and Evaluation, Human Investment and Sanitation, Decoration and Logistic committees.

Other committees were the Entertainment, Health and Exhibition and the Finance, and Protocol which altogether forms nine committees.

Women from different social and cultural groups attended the meeting. The ASDO expressed satisfaction with the massive attendance and fruitful deliberations.
