Women urged to have a positive vision of business

As Cameroon and Limbe in particular prepares to host big sporting events like the female and male African Cup of Nations in the years ahead, stakeholders have begun strategising on how best to make the events memorable, make the city more beautiful, attractive and entertaining for all.

In this light, the Honourable Member of Parliament for Fako East Constituency, Hon Etombi Gladys Ikome, has urged business women in Limbe to have a good raison d’etre, before engaging in any business, for the betterment of all.

The Hon MP was speaking during a one-day workshop dubbed Empowering Women Summit, at Botanic Garden which brought business women from several women’s groups, to share ideas, on conservation and business, and see how they can improve and help the women to know about the importance of ICTs and also create awareness on upcoming events to be hosted in the city.

Hon Etombi during her presentation on the motivation of setting up a business; told the women that the government cannot do everything, thus “we as women with vision must join hands to build the nation; we must be economically vibrant”.

She reminded the women that the essence of business is not just to make profit or copy and compete with others, but to ensure that the community benefits from what is being done. She cautioned them that in order for them to be successful in what they do, they must be creative and venture in new areas, avoid cheating, be truthful, patient, polite, innovative, alert and faithful in paying taxes.

The women exchanged ideas on morality and spirituality, after which they were divided into two groups and did presentations on environmental and business ills mentioning amongst other things littering, bush fire, cheating, sale of expired products, corruption, tax evasion deforestation and other vices which must be stamped out in order to make the business climate more friendly.

The coordinator of the workshop, Julie Mafany Mbome, conservator of the Limbe Botanic Garden did a presentation on Biodiversity Conservation: Another Business for Sustainable Development, during which she enlightened the women on the importance of biodiversity conservation.

The second part of the workshop which was attended by some female delegates and other elderly female stakeholders, witnessed a presentation on ICT.
