The enclave nature of the region however hampers the smooth transmission of reports to ELECAM branches.

Inhabitants of the South West Region are going about their normal activities in a serene atmosphere Tuesday, October 1, 2013, after the Legislative and Municipal elections.

The smooth conduct of the polls across the six divisions of the region has given way for a conducive atmosphere for denizens to resume their daily chores after all other activities were grounded in the most part of Monday, September 30, polling day. No major incident of violence was reported across the region.

The elections have come and gone, but tongues are left wagging in the region as voters are speculating the outcome of the polls. A total of seven political formations took part in the twin elections vying for 31 Councils and 15 Parliamentary seats in the region. Reports say some 332,042 registered voters who were expected to cast their ballots in some 1617 polling stations across the region performed their civic responsibility in total serenity.

Speaking to Cameroon Tribune, Tuesday morning, the South West Regional Delegate of ELECAM, Njang Emmanuel, affirmed the hitch-free conduct of the polls adding that political actors have seen for the first time how elections are conducted in a transparent manner. Mr. Njang thanked political actors, the administration and security forces for the collaboration in organizing what he described as credible elections.

By press time, the Regional Delegate said ELECAM Branches are still receiving reports (Proces Verbal) from all the nocks and crannies of the region to be forwarded to the appropriate quarters. The enclave nature of some parts of the region like Mbo, Bangem, Wabane amongst others makes transmission difficult as polling station chairpersons are still trekking to the branch offices to hand over the results.

Mr Njang indicated that the local polling stations chairpersons have 48 hours to deliver the reports to the ELECAM offices which will in turn transmit the reports to the Communal Supervisory Commissions in the case of Municipal Election and the Constitutional Council in the case of Legislative elections.
