Bishop Jean Mbarga installed in Yaoundé

The handing over of the episcopal seat took place Saturday in the presence of PM, Philemon Yang, personal representative of the head of State.

With the help from His Lordship Piero Pioppo and Samuel Kleda, Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea and president of the national Episcopal Conference of Cameroon respectively, Bishop Jean Mbarga settled on the cathedral.

The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister, head of Government Philemon Yang, personal representative of the head of State, many members of the Government, the diplomatic corps and representatives of other religious groups.

Jean Mbarga was installed under Cardinal Christian Tumi and twenty bishops, including some clergy from Chad, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea after the resignation of Bishop Simon Victor Tonye Bakot which occurred July 29, 2013.

The 5th Metropolitan Archbishop of Yaoundé was handed authority and it should be noted that an atmosphere of folk festival was held during this ceremony. There was the reading of the Act by the Pope appointing the new Archbishop, signed October 31.

Speaking to colleagues, and to the faithful, Bishop Mbarga reminded them that the Archdiocese of Yaoundé is going to work for authentication of its universal mission: "it is not a political vocation, it is prophetic. It is not for human glory, it must glorifies God alone. This vocation is not economic, but it supports the development of people. This vocation is not sociological, because it is human centered. "For him, the Church cannot be a pathway to a career, it is a call to service".
