The Catholic Church in Cameroon is sponsoring a day of prayer for peace on Saturday, July 19. Cameroon has been suffering from the actions of Boko Haram, an Islamist terrorist group based across the border in Nigeria.

Several foreign nationals in Cameroon have been kidnapped by Boko Haram.

The country is also having to deal with a wave of refugees from the violence in the Central African Republic.

"We want to entrust Cameroon as well as all the other Countries in war to the Lord,” said Archbishop Samuel Kleda, of Douala.

He told the Fides News Agency the insecurity at Cameroon’s borders has created a “psychosis” in the population.

“ In these situations, you must put yourself in the hands of the Almighty,” he said.

Cameroon is a majority Christian country, with Catholics making up about 40% of the population. There is a significant Muslim minority, divided among Sunnis, Shias, Ahmadis, Sufis, and other groups.
