Muslims in Cameroon are warming up for the Ramadan, a month of fasting which falls within the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

During this time, Muslims think and live according to their relationship with God while professing their faith through prayers and devotion.

Accordingly, for 29 or 30 days, from sunrise to sunset, the Muslim community gives up worldly pleasures like food, drink and sex and focus on reflections and prayers at specific times of the day.

Ramadan which means 'scorching' in Arabic was established as a Holy Month for Muslims after the Quran was revealed to the prophet Muhammad.

It comes on the 9th month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

The period ends with the celebration of Eid ul Adhaa, during which Muslims feast in prayers and sharing.
