Saudi Arabia donates 100T of dates to Muslims

Saudi Arabia has donated 100 tonnes of dates to Cameroonians. The gift was handed over during a ceremony at the Saudi Arabian Embassy on May 15, 2015.

The Saudi Arabian government donated 100 tonnes of date fruits to the Cameroon government to distribute, especially to Muslims who are already preparing for the upcoming feast of the Ramadan.

Ambassador Mohammed Bin Sulaiman Almusher handed over the gift in the presence of an official from the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Finance, Abdalla Djibril. The nutritious fruit, is good for breakfast during the fasting period that leads up to the Muslim feast.

The Director of the Department of Asian Affairs and Relations with the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation in the Ministry of External Relations, Mohamadou Moustapha who received the gift on behalf of government lauded relations between Cameroon and Saudi Arabia.

He said the date fruits will be distributed through religious associations and government will ensure that people from all social strata of the society, including prisoners have a share of the fruits.

The Saudi government has been offering dates to Cameroon for some years now. Mr Moustapha described relations between Cameroon and Saudi Arabia as excellent and stated that they are diversified. He equally thanked the Saudi Arabian government for facilitating the movement and stay of Cameroonian pilgrims to the country.

Muslims in Cameroon will also witness a greater bolster from the Saudi government in the upcoming Muslim feast of the Ramadan. The Saudi diplomat disclosed that Imans will be dispatched to the Tsinga Islamic Complex in Yaounde and also to the Mosque in Garoua.

There will equally be the sharing of 1,000 collective meals in Yaounde and Garoua. The Saudi government, it was revealed, was also bracing up to support refugees in Far North Region of Cameroon.
