Y’de V council donates to Muslims ahead of fasting month

Moslems in Cameroon on Monday, June 6, 2016, began fasting and praying for the holy month of Ramadan. In order to assist them go on with the financially exacting period, the Yaounde V Sub-divisional Council has for the second time offered foodstuff and fabric to Moslems in the area. The handover took place on June 6, 2016 in the council premises at Essos, Yaounde.

Mayor Yvette Claudine Ngono said though Cameroon was a secular State, this did not stop non-Moslems from coming to their assistance during the month of fasting and praying. She then handed over donated items to the 19 Imams in the sub-division.

The gifts included 65 sacks of rice, 39 cartons of oil, 39 cartons of sugar and fabric. One of the Imams, Aladji Ibrahim Modibo, expressed gratitude to the Mayor for the gesture and later prayed for all those present, especially Muslims.

The representative of the Divisional Officer for Yaounde V Sub-division wished Muslims the best as they go through the holy month of fasting.

He also thanked the Mayor of Yaounde V Council for the gifts, stressing that Cameroon is a united country of many religions. Imam Ali, on behalf of all Muslims, thanked Mayor Yvette Claudine Ngono for the gifts.

He described her as a model of peace in Cameroon and worldwide. Imam Ibrahim Modibo said the Almighty Allah will bless the Mayor as the Holy Koran says that anything given to someone will be rewarded 700 fold.
