The Indomitable Lions began training for the upcoming world cup in Kirstein-Austria on Tuesday.
Less than three weeks to go to the beginning of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the Indomitable Lions on Tuesday May 20th began the last and final phase of preparations for the event. All 28 players called to the national selection by Volker Finke, in addition to the two on the waiting list began training in a camp in Kirstein-Austria yesterday which will run up to May 31st. After the training camp, the coach Volker Finke will publish a final list of 23 players to defend the national colours in Brazil.
The training programme will be punctuated by three friendly matches. The first will be on May 26 against the republic of Macedonia while the second will be on May 29 against Paraguay before the final show down against Germany on June 1st. Meanwhile there has been a slight change in the programme of the Indomitable Lions. The friendly against Guatemala initially scheduled to take place on June 7th, has been cancelled.
Unconfirmed sources say a new sparring partner for the Indomitable Lions during their traditional send-off match at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium has been found and will probably be Moldavia.
It is worthy to note that the bulk of the players selected are professionals based outside the country but for Loic Feudjou and Cedric Djeugoue. More so, 17 of the shortlisted players took part in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Though the list has been criticised by some football pundits, there is general consensus the squad can deliver in Brazil on condition that they train well and avoid intestinal squabbles
