In a letter dated May 18, 2016, and addressed to the president of Fédération Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT), CAF President Issa Hayatou said he has learned “with great sadness" the death of David Mayebi, which occurred on May 15, 2016, in Yaoundé after an illness.
“In these painful moments, I wish to express, on behalf of the CAF Executive Committee, the African football family and on my own behalf our sincere condolences and deep sympathy to FECAFOOT, the whole Cameroonian football community especially to the family of the deceased,” wrote the CAF President.
A former Cameroon international, Mayebi was born on November 10, 1954, and served as a coach after a playing career spent mostly with Union Douala in the early 80’s.
After participating in the creation of the Association of Cameroonian Footballers (AFC) which he became president, he was also an Executive member of FECAFOOT and one time one of the Vice Presidents.
Internationally, he was an Executive Member of the Board of the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro).
