Cameroonian clubs know faith in continental competitions

The four Cameroonian teams to take part in continental competitions have been given difficult task after draws of the CAF Champion League and CAF Confederation Cup were made known.

Cameroon champions Cotonsport of Garoua are free from the preliminaries and will enter the competition only during the second round while their counterpart, Cosmos of Bafia will confront CC Kampala of Uganda during their first leg scheduled to take place on the weekend of 13, 14 and 15 February 2015 and 27, 28 February and 1 March 2015 for the second leg according to the program.

Vice Champion of Cameroon Cosmos FC will have the psychological advantage of playing the second leg at home before their huge supporters.

In the Confederation Cup, the two torches doors of Cameroon will compete in the preliminaries.

Panther Nde inherited the draw and will face Radius Sport of Rwanda while Unisport of Bafang is set to play against Olympique de Ngor representative of Senegal on on the weekend of 13, 14 and 15 February 2015 and 27, 28 February and 1 March 2015 for the second leg.

Unlike Cosmos Bafia, Cameroon qualified them as part of the Confederation Cup play the return matches on adverse stadium.

The final stage or the second round will be difficult for the Cameroon teams if they go through in the preliminaries.

Cotonsport of Garoua will come in at the 16th round and will play against the winner of the preliminary match against Libolo of Angola of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

If Cosmos Bafia goes through in the preliminaries, they will play the 16th final against Esperance of Tunis, the champion of Tunisia.

If Panther of Nde also crosses the preliminaries, they will play the next step against Zamalek of Egypt.

On the other hand, if Unisport of Bafang goes through the preliminary stage, they will play the 16th against the winner of the game Hearts of Oak from Ghana against AS Police of Benin.

The winners of the inaugural stage will play the final 16 on 13, 14 and 15 March 2015 for the first leg and 03, 04 and April 5, 2015 for the second leg. For three decades, Cameroonian teams keep chasing an African title. Last year, Cotonsport of Garoua, achieved the best performance by reaching the semi-finals of the Confederation Cup.

It should be noted that, African Champions Entente Setif along with six other clubs, will not play the first round of the 2015 African Champions League.

Cotonsport of Garoua, Congo’s AC Leopards, Egypt’s Al Ahly, TP Mazembe for DR Congo and Tunisian duo of CS Sfaxien and Esperance are the other clubs who are exempted from the first round.

Three former winners are in the preliminary round – Ghana’s Asante Kotoko face East End Lions of Sierra Leone, Nigeria’s Enyimba will play Buffles from Benin while Raja Casablanca take on the Red Devils of Congo.
