Canal 2 International emerged champion in the football tournament organized on the occasion of the 40th anniversary celebration of Cameroon Tribune. In an action-packed encounter last Friday at the annex stadium number 3 of the Ahmadou Ahidjo complex, the team from Canal 2 narrowly edged MTN Cameroon, 1-0 to lift the trophy.

The victory goal came at the 71st minute through Limen Tresor, who whacked in a ball after a pass from a teammate. The encounter was fully of missed opportunities, un-clinical passes and lack of good finishing skills from the attackers, which is understandable given that football, is not their trade in stock.

The finals took the airs of a great feast given that there was musical animation from a Brasseries band and the publicity banners of MTN floated on every corner of the field. Tents were raised and seats displayed for spectators. The turn-out was equally impressive as passersby attracted by the décor stopped to watch the match.

Though SOPCAM was eliminated in the semi-final, there was an impressive turn-out of SOPCAM staff led by the assistant General Manger, Shey Peter Mabu who gave the kick-off to the encounter. At half-time, the public was thrilled by a performance from a ball juggler who mesmerized the spectators with his exceptional ball manipulating skills.

Commenting on the unfolding of the competitions, the coordinator of sports activities at SOPECAM, Amougou Patrice, said the organisation was satisfactory as all teams invited for the competitions were present but for the two.

In handball, the Yaounde Gyneco-Obstetric hospital declared forfeiture while the team from the Anecdote media group was absent from the football tournament.

The trophies were handed to the winners in a grand gala night at the Hilton Hotel in Yaounde which marked the end of the 40th anniversary celebrations. SOPECAM won the handball tournament.
