Matches counting for the preliminary round of the African Champions League and Confederations Cup will take place in stadia across the continent this weekend.

Panthere, the unfortunate finalist at the 2014 edition of the Cup of Cameroon, will be travelling to Rwanda to take on local side Rayon Sports in an encounter counting for the return leg of the preliminary round of the confederations cup.

In the away leg a fortnight ago in Cameroon, Panthere were humbled 0-1 by Rayon Sport and will have to overcome the one goal deficit and win with a two goal margin to qualify for the round of 16.

Contrarily, Unisport of the Upper Nkam Division will be travelling to Senegal with a one goal advantage over their opponents, Olympique Ngor, thanks to the one-nil victory obtained in the away leg two weeks ago back in Douala.

A simple victory or draw will therefore be enough to enable Unisport who emerged third in the championship last year to clinch a 16th final spot.

Reigning runners up, Cosmos of Bafia, will be the only Cameroonian team involved in the prestigious African Champions league this weekend, given that the other contender, Coton Sport of Garoua, was exempted from the preliminary round of the competition alongside Al Ahly of Egypt, Tout-Puissant Mazembe and AC Leopard.

Cosmos of Bafia will play host to visiting Kampala FC from Uganda with the handicapped of having conceded a 0-1 defeat to the visitors during the away leg a fortnight ago.

The fact that Cosmos got up to a slow start of the championship this season where they occupy the last but one position on the league table, is a cause for concern.

However, given the fact that they will be playing in front of their home crowd in Douala, there is reason that ‘Cosmos of Jesus’ as they are fondly referred to, would turn the tables and clinch a 16th final spot in their maiden participation at the competition.
