PWD of Bamenda, Yong Sports Academy and Bafut United have booked a place into the next round of the Cup of Cameroon following victories in the preliminary round of the competition that was played last week.
On Wednesday in Bafang, Northwest Regional Second Division side, Rangers FC of Bafut beat Elite Two side As Matelot of Douala by one goal to nil. PWD Bamenda on Thursday recorded a 4-0 victory over Littoral regional outfit JECAA Sports of Loum at the FECAFOOT Technical Centre at Odza in the outskirt of Yaounde and Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda edged out Afamba Libi of Sangmelima from the South Second Division league by 1-0 in Obala
Meanwhile, Rainbow FC of Bamenda exited the competition following a 2-4 defeat in post match penalty kicks to Ouragon FC de Yaoundé after a one all tie at the end of 90 minutes. That match was played in Bagante on Saturday, earlier on Wednesday, the National Polytechnic Bamenda lost to AS FAP of Yaoundé and in Bamenda on Sunday, Aigle of Dschang beat Ndop Rice FC of Ndop by 3-0.
These three sides join 61 others into the next round whose draws would be conducted soon. The preliminary round of the cup was marked by several withdrawals and absences as a total of 15 clubs either indicated their withdrawl or failed to turn up for their encounters.
Some have blamed this on the poor and late fixture by the FA. Some elite two and one teams eliminated include Dynamic of Buea, AS Matelot of Douala, Feutcheu FC, The Ngaoundere University FC (absent), Botafogo FC of Douala (absent), and Victoria United of Limbe.
