Cameroon skipper Samuel Eto'o has confirmed that he is unlikely to face Croatia in Manaus on Wednesday, in matchday 2 of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The Indomitable Lions striker suffered a knee injury during Cameroon's 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mexico in their Group stage opener on Friday.

Eto'o took to social media platform twitter to confirm that he will 'probably not' be fit to be in contention for the crucial Group A clash against Croatia on the 18th of June.

"The doctors confirm! I would probably not be able to play the match vs Croatia on Wednesday June 18th due to an injury on my knee causing me pain," the 33-year-old tweeted.

Head coach Volker Finke on Sunday admitted that Eto'o injured his knee while still playing for Chelsea and that it was unclear whether he would be fit to line-up against the Croats.

“He arrived from Chelsea with a knee problem which requires a lot of care to see him back to full form. He has worked very hard to be at the World Cup, but after that game he will need to receive some extra care. I cannot tell you if he will play or not against Croatia,” coach Volker Finke said in a press conference on Sunday.

The West Africans will resume training at the Kleber Andrade Stadium on Monday at 10h00 local time.
