After having two goals disallowed for as many controversies in the first half, “El Tri” took a much deserved lead just past the hour-mark through Oribe Peralta, which proved to be enough for the Mexicans to cash the full points at the end of the encounter.
Struggling right from the outset, the Indomitable Lions never seemed in a position to get something out of that match.
“We were hoping for a better start, we are a bit disappointed. We were in a positive spirit, but God decided otherwise,” Samuel Eto’o told L’equipe after the clash.
The Lions’ skipper is however ready to bounce back against Croatia in their next Group A encounter.
“We need to do everything to get ourselves back into the race for a spot in the knock-out stage. Football showed us it was not an exact science. It won’t be easy, but we are going to prepare well and forget about what happened.
“We came here with the intention of having a good game and win. It has not been the case but we need to look forward and say to ourselves that we are in the same situation as Croatia,” the striker added.
“It is the only way to keep our hopes alive before facing Brazil. We can beat any team.”
