Finke bent on reconstructing future team

Cameroon coach Volker Finke is bent on reconstructing the team. He is aiming at qualifying the lions for the African Nations Cup with the team he is reconstructing for the future. “We are working to qualify for the Nations Cup, but also for the future”.

But, he is aware that training the team for three days ahead of the game against the DR Congo is not enough following the Fifa calendar and players who have just been handed their first selection.

With futuristic ideas that Finke says he had to bring in changes. “After the World Cup, it was necessary to effect changes, bring in a new generation of players, not that the players who are no longer with us are bad, there was the need for another kind of mentality.

“With 17 players who have participated in two World Cups, I decided to reconstruct the team with players who have a strong mentality, respect for principles and rules of world football which are above the coach, player and country.

“We would normalise things in the team and in lions’ environment. I am optimistic that this work is for a better future. It is not a moment to cry, but to look ahead”.

Cameroon is going to the match against DR Congo with three players absent, Gaetang Bong, Jean Marie Dongou and Joel Matip.

Finke says Matip wants a time-out because Schalke 04 lost against a small club and there is tension in, reason his decision has to be to respected. Finke says he would also help the FC Barcelona player who has personal issues come to the team.

Finke and his group of scouts have been following DR Congo players in Europe. “We know the players in Europe and 37 local players who have been training for some time following stoppage of the championship. But, finally DR Congo would play with about seven professional players”.

The national team leaves for Lubumbashi tomorrow to play DR Congo on September 6 and in four days play against Ivory Coast in Yaoundé.
