The first edition of the Honourable Fritz Ngeka Etoke Inter quarter Football Competition has started.
The tournament that is played in two pools; Tiko and Mutengene was launched last Saturday July 12 at the CBC Mutengene field under the watchful eyes of the Divisional Officer for Tiko, Che Patrick Ngwashi.
The population of Mutengene turned out in their numbers to witness the first ever edition of the tournament since the young and dynamic parliamentarian was elected last September 30.
In his welcome note, the Cup Donor, Honourable Fritz Etoke told the population that had gathered that, he decided to use football to celebrate the peace that is reigning in the country thanks to the Head of State President Paul Biya.
Honourable Fritz Etoke said the youths need to occupy themselves during the summer holiday period so that they can be free from temptation and other vices that go with youthful exuberance.
He added that the people of Tiko and Mutengene have made him what he is today reason he will do everything to say thank you even if it means him going an extra mile.
Honourable Fritz Etoke also took time to laud the support of the United Action for the Underprivileged Foundation and Emergence Travel and Tours Agency, EMTTA all located in Mutengene Mo Bwenga, towards the organisation of the tournament.
The Divisional Officer for Tiko, Che Patrick Ngwashi preferred not to comment but promised the population that he would have much to say at the end of the tournament.
After reading of the official authorisation from the Divisional Delegation of Sports and Physical Education for the organisation of the tournament, the cup donor accompanied by the Divisional Officer and his Etat Major, proceeded to the kick-off for the tournament to roll.
The opening match pitted, Young Veterans against Quarter II F.C. all of Mutengene.
High-quality football was exhibited by the two teams though the rains had an effect on the play styles of the players.
Midway in the first half, Young Veterans were leading Quarter II F.C by one goal to nothing.
At half time, the scores did not change as both teams took some time to re- strategise for the second half.
When the game resumed, Quarter II F.C mounted pressure and missed many scoring opportunities thanks to the tact of the goalkeeper of Young Veterans.
Despite the pressure exerted by Quarter II F.C, things did not change as, at full time, it was one goal for Young Veterans and zero for Quarter II.
Speaking to the press at the end of the match, the Cup Donor, Honourable Fritz Etoke was visibly satisfied as he recommended that the Coach of the Indomitable Lions should come down to Mutengene and get players for the Nations cup in 2015.
He said from what he has seen; he will make the tournament and annual event with a cash prize increasing in successive years.
