I never gave the names of seven players - Volker Finke

Finke denies mentioning the names of any players of the Indomitable Lions after several newspapers have published such information following his questioning by the Prime Minister’s Commission of Inquiry regarding the reasons behind the team’s World Cup disaster.

One headline said: "Volker Finke requests head of seven players", while another said: "Finke wants to get rid of seven players," and another:"Finke reveals the black sheep?"

All of the articles revealed the names of Samuel Eto'o, Landry Nguemo, Assou Ekotto, Enoh Eyong, Jean II Makoun, Achille Webo and Alexandre Song as those players that the German technician would see banned from the national team.

In a telephone interview by Camfoot, Finke said: "I never gave the names of seven players during my interview with the Prime Minister of Cameroon.”

According to the German technician, this information which has been increasingly taken over by a "certain media" is only discord.

He thinks it is a move on the part of some Cameroonian journalists to tarnish his image and create a poisonous atmosphere in the Lion’s den between him and the players raised. "It is a lie to start rumours and install doubts in the team," he supported.

This comes at a time when the national team of Cameroon flag football should be preparing to face the Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo in September, on the occasion of qualifying for the African Cup of Nations (CAN) 2015.

Volker Finke, who is already back to work after the lousy performance in Brazil in 2014, is totally indignant at the "bad faith" with which some media reports to the Cameroonian public without taking the trouble to contact officials in order to have accurate information.

"It’s a pity about the rebels. With lies like these and people seeking to destabilize the group and it is a real shame,” he concludes.
