Deborah Enganamouit scored twice as Cameroon defeated Algeria 2-0 on Tuesday evening at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek, Namibia to go top of Group B.
The on-form Les Lionnes showed intent from the onset going into attack mode from kick off as eventual man-of-the-match Deborah Enganamouit opened the scoring in the 16th minute getting Algerian goalkeeper Kahina Takenint off guard with a long range shot.
Cameroon dominated possession outplaying Algeria to keep much of the ball and going forward in search of another goal to seal off this game.
A timid Algerian side was punished after a defender held the ball in the box to grant an opportunity to striker Enganamouit to net from the spot in the 61st minute making it two goals on the day.
The situation got out of hand for Algeria when Fethia Bekhedda received a second yellow card in the 83rd minute to leave only 10 of the North Africans on the pitch to deal with an attack-minded Cameroon that was minutes away from sealing victory and was not shy about looking for yet another goal.
The West Africans lead Group B with six points which brings them closer to booking a place in the last four as Algeria suffered their first loss at the two-week long tournament. Algeria has three points while South Africa and Ghana have no point yet.
The top three sides from this tournament will qualify for the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup in Canada.
