They are to continue training in preparation for the tournament to begin on January 17th.
After the friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday, the Indomitable Lions left yesterday for Libreville-Gabon to continue training in preparation for the upcoming 30th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations to take place in Equatorial Guinea.
During the training camp in Gabon, the Lions who took up residence at the Nomad hotel in Libreville, will play two more warm-up matches before leaving for Malabo where they will be playing their group matches.
The Lions will play a friendly against South Africa on Sunday January 11th. On January 14th, they will play another friendly against a yet to be determined opponent. The training camp in Gabon ends on January 16th as the Lions travel to Malabo on that same day.
Though the ball will be set rolling for the competition on January 17th by the host Equatorial Guinea versus Congo, Cameroon will only join the fiesta on January 20th with a confrontation against Mali. The second outing of the Indomitable Lions in the competition will be on January 24th, this time against Guinea. Their toughest challenge in the group will come on January 28th when they take on heavyweights, Côte d’Ivoire.
Judging from their performance during the qualifiers and in the friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon stands a chance of putting up a sensational performance in the competition, if the same team discipline and concentration is maintained.
The New Look Lions have so far demonstrated tactical discipline and cohesion with players putting their talents at the service of the team, thereby creating difficulties for even the best football sides. We can only wish the Lions good luck as they embark on the campaign for their fifth continental consecration.
