Nation and Cameroon Meet Wednesday for 12th Time

Lubango — The national football teams of Angola and Cameroon will come face to face for the 12th time in history on Wednesday in Lubango, southern Huila province, with advantage for the latter that won four encounters, drew six and lost one.

The two teams first clashed on 8 June 1989, in a group C match of the qualifiers for the Italy World Cup of 1990 with a 1-1 score.

In the same year, on June 25, in Luanda, the two teams met again, with Cameroon beating the host (2-1).

They reunion happened again on 24 January 1996, in Angola's first appearance in an African Cup of Nations hosted by South Africa. The group A match ended in a 3-3 draw.

Other encounters followed on 12 January 1997 for the qualifiers for the France World Cup (0-0), 8 June 1997 (1-1)and a friendly on 27 January 1998 (1-0).

In the qualifiers for the South Korea and Japan World Cup of 2002, Cameroon beat Angola (3-0) on 9 July 2002, followed by Angola's first win (2-0) in a second leg match on 6 May 2001, in Luanda.

Angola and Cameroon came face to face again in group B of the African Cup of Nations of Egypt, with the latter winning by 3-1. Angola scored their second win over Cameroon in 2011, during the CHAN of Sudan on 19 February. They were playing the quarter finals of

the competition, with a 8-7 score in penalty kicks, following a goalless draw.

The last encounter occurred on 14 December 2011 in a friendly match in Luanda (1-1).

The overall score counts 25 goals. Ten for Angola and 15 for Cameroon. Angola scored in seven of the 11 games and suffered eight. The Giant Black Antelopes lost one of the last four matches with the Lions.
