Omam Biyick rubbishes match-fixing claims

Former Cameroon striker Francois Omam-Biyik has rubbished claims of match-fixing involving the national team at the 2014 World Cup.

FECAFOOT announced on Tuesday it was investigating allegations of fraud during the 'Indomitable Lions' Group A meeting with Croatia.

A German magazine has claimed that convicted match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal accurately predicted the result of the defeat by Croatia. Perumal has since denied these suggestions, while FIFA have refused to comment.

Omam-Biyik, who helped the 'Indomitable Lions' reach the quarter-finals of the 1990 World Cup, dismissed the match-fixing claims as rumours.

"They are only rumours. One person stands up and says bad things to rubbish an entire country and it's not right, particularly as there is no proof," Omam-Biyik told SkySports.

"Croatia won the game with Cameroon because they were better, because we weren't good enough during the World Cup.

"It's a pity that people come out with unfounded rumours like that. For me it's a no-brainer. If FIFA think they have to go looking for more information, they will do it."
