While rumours go wild that Oyongo Bitolo got injured on Monday, New York Red Bulls player fully participated in the first meeting for the preparation for AFCON, on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in Yaoundé.
On Monday, January 5, 2015, several media announced a possible ankle injury of Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo, from a friendly match he took part in Biyem Assi district in Yaounde last Sunday.
An information which was quickly shared on social networks where he got quite a lot of criticism. He was condemned for playing a gala match prior to a competition as important as the Africa Cup of Nations.
To clear the air on this matter, the Indomitable Lions coach Volker Finke has confirmed that, his player is in good shape at a press conference held Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in Yaoundé.
"Oyongo did a good workout this morning", reassured the German coach before deciding: "it may be true, he played with his friends in the neighborhood and when he wanted to leave, he acted as though he was wounded. But he was not wounded. I saw him this morning, fit and active".
The player meanwhile actually played from beginning to end in the first workout of the Lions, held at Ahmadou Ahidjo without showing any sign of malfunction. He will play the scheduled friendly match against the Democratic Republic of Congo Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.
