Barcelona and Cameroon midfielder Alex Song has apologised for the incident that saw him sent off against Croatia.
The Indomitable Lions eventually lost 4-0 to confirm their elimination from the World Cup, with Song dismissed in the first half after he struck Mario Mandzukic off-the-ball.
According to the BBC, Song has asked for forgiveness and was unable to explain what led to the clash with the Bayern Munich striker, who went on to claim two of Croatia’s goals.
“I'm very sad at the moment as I feel I have let my country and myself down,” Song said.
“It was a stupid moment and I'm truly sorry. If I could do anything to take it back I would. Please forgive me.”
The match also saw Cameroon teammates Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Benjamin Moukandjo come to blows, with Assou-Ekotto headbutting Moukandjo. The pair also had to be separated in the tunnel.
