Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a move for Clinton N’Jie.
As per the latest reports in The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur have been told to pay up £14 million in order to secure a deal for Lyon’s exciting prospect Clinton N’Jie.
Spurs have spent much of the summer offloading players deemed surplus to requirements but now boss Mauricio Pochettino needs to make some important additions ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Aside from a new central midfielder, a forward capable of playing out wide as well as providing competition for star striker Harry Kane is high on the club’s list of priorities.
As per a previous report in the Daily Star, Lyon’s Clinton N’Jie has been pinpointed as Spurs’ ideal summer addition with the club reportedly making an offer in the region of £7 million.
However, new claims from The Sun now state that while the Ligue 1 giants laughed off such a paltry bid, they are willing to do business at double the price despite reports of the club not needing to sell him.
Should Spurs make a big-money bid for Clinton N’Jie?
The 21-year-old ultimately fits the club’s philosophy in terms of transfer targets – he’s young, talented, has something to offer in the short-term and could be the subject of a big-money, long-term sale.
Spurs seemingly don’t have the resources to buy the very best proven talent in today’s market, therefore they need to take advantage of opportunities such as N’Jie ahead of the competition.
What could N’Jie offer in the short-term?
The Cameroon international boasts plenty of attacking threat, netting seven times and adding a further seven assists in 30 French top-flight encounters last season.
Spurs need to add competition to players like Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli or risk the dilemma of having to shuffle the squad around in the event of inevitable injuries and suspensions, and N'Jie could certainly help given his pace and dribbling ability.
