Visiting CAF officials to the Limbe stadium led by Amadou Diakhite an Executive Member of CAF, Adoum Djibrine from Chad, Paul Bassey, CAF expert from Nigeria and the Director of the African Cup of Nations competitions, Amr Fahmy from Egypt all advised that the Limbe stadium be roof in order to cover all seats in case of rain.
“Limbe is closer to Debundscha that is the second wettest place in the World after Cherrapunji in Meghalaya India. “We think the roof needs to be extended,” an official said.
The argument of the officials was hinged on the fact that the comfort of spectators during matches might have to be compromised if it rains or in extreme sunny weather.
However, one of the Chinese technicians who spoke to CameroonWeb said the roofing can be extended by adding some steel structures.
The visiting officials tour round Cameroon was guided by the President of the FECAFOOT Normalisation Committee, Prof. Joseph Owona, and the Secretary General in the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education. The inspection team visited football arenas,hospitals and hotels in Yaounde, Garoua, Bafoussam, Buea, Limbe and Douala.
In Limbe, the officials looked satisfied with the beauty of what the 20,000-seat football stadium that Chinese have put in place, with its conference rooms, commentary booths and all other facilities.
The facts gathered by the delegation shall be tabled for final consideration by CAF for the vote as to which country hosts the 2019 tournament during the CAF Executive meeting expected in four months time.
Cameroon is one of six countries that have submitted a bid files to host the 32nd edition of the African Nations Cup, billed for 2019. Besides Cameroon is Algeria, Ivory Coast, Zambia, Congo DR and Guinea.
The final decision as to which country qualifies to host the 2019 and 2021 football jamborees shall be decided in September, this year.
The delegation of four CAF officials has been in Cameroon from May 13 to May 18 to inspect available infrastructure and venues.
