Their place in the top four on Christmas Day was their highest league ranking over the festive period for 28 years, and Sam Allardyce’s side have been tremendous in the opening half of the campaign.

Summer signings Diafra Sakho, Alex Song and Aaron Cresswell have proven fantastic additions to the squad, while struggling stars Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll have been given a new lease of life at the club.
