Yaounde lawyers beat FAKLA in football tourney

Lawyers from Yaounde, Douala, Meme and Fako Division downed their wigs and gowns and converged on Limbe for a soccer tournament.

In the football tourney, the advocates from Yaounde defeated their Fako counterparts in the final by one goal to nil.

Before reaching the final, the lawyers from Fako walloped their counterparts from Douala by 4 - 2 in the first match, while in the second encounter, the advocates from Yaounde, led by the President of the Sports Association of the Cameroon Bar, Barrister Sarah Bihegue, defeated their colleagues from Meme Division by 5 - 0.

The heavy defeat suffered by members of MELA sent the Coach of FAKLA, Barrister Benjamin Enow and team Captain, Barrister Justice Ebah Ntoko, to rally themselves on the pitch for the final match.

The two sides produced some fine brand of football during the first segment of the match that kept the spectators spellbound.

It was during the second segment of the match that an attacker from Yaounde drove a powerful shot around the 18 meter box of FAKLA as it swirled through the defence into FAKLA’s net.

“We had a good match, but our opponents played better. You can see from the quality of goal they scored,” Barrister Enow commented.

But, according to the President of FAKLA, Barrister Stanislaus Ajong, the winner of the tournament was not Yaounde, but the Cameroon Bar Association that initiated the come-together.

“We want to express our gratitude to our guests who honoured this invitation for the tournament. It is a great show of solidarity at the Bar and the winner is the Cameroon Bar Association,” Barrister Ajong said.

Meantime, the President of the Sports Association of the Cameroon Bar Association stated that the main aim of the competition is to instill a spirit of solidarity among lawyer.

“I want to thank my colleagues of the Southwest for the quality of reception they offered to us during this first outing. I also want to thank my Yaounde colleagues for their victory. But, in all, this initiative was solely meant to give us the opportunity to familiarise ourselves with our colleagues. I want to say it was a nice initiative,” Barrister Bihegue added. He stated that their plan was to visit every region of the country to get all the lawyers to know themselves.

Though the Meme lawyers tailed the classification table and those from Douala found themselves on the third spot, the President of MELA, Barrister Philip Atouba and the veteran Barrister Henri Job from Douala were very happy with the initiative.

Young lawyers like Barrister Kits Talla Agha’a from Kumba wished that such a competition could come more often.
