SAMUEL ETO'O has been told to prove he is in the right frame of mind to play for Everton again.

The Cameroon superstar's Goodison Park future is in doubt just five months after joining.

Eto'o is understood to be weighing up big money offers from Sampdoria and the Middle East while one more appearance for the Toffees will activate a clause that would earn him a one-year contract extension at Everton.

The former Barcelona star was left out of the midweek FA Cup defeat at West Ham because Martinez claimed his mind was not right.

And the striker, 33, has been challenged by boss Roberto Martinez to prove he wants to ahead of Monday's visit of West Brom.

That's something I'm going to decide before the game depending on the needs of the squad and the needs of Samuel," said Martinez.

"I'm not looking at these games for Samuel to be involved because it's not right, unless we have made a decision one way or the other, which allows Samuel to be fully focused on what he's doing.

"I haven't made my mind up yet. I'm going to sit down with Samuel this Saturday and Sunday and see how he is.

"His mindset wasn't right on Tuesday because when you have a window, you have the human being coming through. And if you are thinking about the next move, how are you going to challenge for a 50/50 ball in the same manner?"

Martinez insists Eto'o has not become a disruptive influence though.

He added: "No, no. I know we have a lot of these stories coming out and the players, they laugh at them in the dressing room.

"With Samuel, you can ask him, it's nothing sinister about it. Samuel is still in very good condition and is someone who has played a lot of games and a lot of minutes for us."

Everton could have Sylvain Distin and Tony Hibbert back from injury.
