He emerged champion for the fourth consecutive time on Sunday.
The 2015 edition of the table tennis individual championship took place on December 5th and 6th with Ngwe Emmanuel emerging champion in the men’s senior category for the fourth year in a row, thereby reasserting his hegemony in the discipline in Cameroon. He beat in the final 4-2 to lift the trophy. Meanwhile in the women’s senior category, Ngo Bikai dethroned the reigning university games champion and captain of the winners of the team championship, Hariette Ntumyuy, beating her 3-1.
In the men’s junior category, Jague disposed of Mohamed 3-0 and in the women’s senior final, it was Yaoussou who emerged victorious beating Mewouo 3-1. Vouffo Paulin outsmarted the president of the federation, Alfred Bagueka in the veteran category to carry the day on a 3-1 score. The competition marked the end of the table tennis season, a season which saw IUG emerged as champions in both the men and women’s series of the team championship with their captains receiving the trophy from the hands of the Head of State, Paul Biya during the football cup final of Cameroon.
Speaking on the occasion, the president of the table tennis federation, Alfred Bagueka said it has been a very successful season with the only irk being the failure of the CAMRAIL tournament to take place due to change in the management of that structure. He called on the tennis men and women to exercise the culture of sports characterized by fair play and acceptance of defeat.
The final saw the distribution of a consignment of table tennis equipment offered by ‘Ping Sans frontier’ a philanthropic organization led by Cameroonian tennis woman, Sarah Hanffou. The equipment comprises rackets, jerseys and tables. The president of the federation also disclosed that the federation is in the process of constructing tables for onwards distribution to Regional Leagues and other interested persons, as a means of vulgarizing the game in Cameroon. Cash prizes and trophies were awarded to winners in each category with a special prize from Ping Sans Frontier for the respective champions.
