Australia's men's volleyball team have defeated Cameroon in straight sets to win their opening match of the world championships in Poland.
Australia have opened their account at the volleyball world championships in dream fashion with a 3-0 victory over Cameroon in Wroclaw, Poland.
The Volleyroos, who have never made it past the first round at a world championship, are in the ideal position to break that drought after a convincing victory in the African nation.
Australia took charged of the match after a scrappy opening set to dominate and close out a 25-22 25-15 25-18 victory.
Coach Jon Uriarte pulled a few surprises in the warm-up by benching Olympians Nathan Roberts, Travis Passier and Harry Peacock and giving Luke Smith a surprise start.
But the 24-year-old Smith was among Australia's best, winning the first three service points of the match to get the upper hand in the only close set.
Tom Edgar was Australia's leading point scorer, with a game-high 18, while Smith and 21-year-old Nehemiah Mote were also stand-outs.
Australia's next match will be against host nation Poland, who won their opening encounter against Serbia in front of a 60,000-strong crowd, on Tuesday.
