The 101 Air Force base in Yaounde hosted the yearly buffet to celebrate unity day on Friday.

Activities to mark the 40th National Day started at the 101 Air Force Base in Yaounde on Friday May 18, 2012 with a common meal for various members of the Cameroonian Air Force. The ceremony that was opened by the Base Commander, Colonel Ngomane Titse was massively attended by the soldiers as well as special guests from other wings of the Armed Forces.

The occasion provided the opportunity for Air Commodore (Brigadier General) Jean Calvin Momha to underscore the role played by the Cameroonian Air Force in various aspects of Cameroon's development that is beginning to yield fruit. "Each time our force is solicited, it succeeds, thanks to your commitment and professionalism," he told the cheering hall of service men and women. He further called on his men to maintain the attitude of conviviality and more cohesion as they carry out their daily tasks.

The Air Force is one of the branches of the Cameroonian army whose role is not often clearly perceived by the public. Amongst its several achievements are the role played during the Bakassi conflict, the transportation of people between North and South Cameroon when regular air and rail transport has problems, surveillance of forests to check the rate of deforestation and poaching as well as transporting relief material as was the case recently to Brazzaville, Congo after the explosion of an ammunitions dump that resulted in heavy loss of life.
