The estimated four million Nigerians in Cameroon view their President’s friendly and working visit to Cameroon as another turning point in relations between the two countries.

In all regions of Cameroon where these Nigerians, predominantly traders reside, the excitement is very apparent.

Most of them salute the peace that reigns in Cameroon and the hospitality of the Cameroonian people reason why the present visit is considered as another forum to forge ahead new avenues of cooperation.

Apart from cooperation, this community hopes that discussions between the two Presidents focus on some of their daily concerns:

First, the Boko Haram insurgency has heightened the state of insecurity within both communities. Due to the incessant attacks, most of these traders cannot import goods without special security exigencies. In a nutshell, the Boko Haram attacks have negatively impacted on their general turnover.

Second, the issue of resident permits. Some of these residents are illegal because of what they consider high cost of resident permits. Their hope is that the two Presidents discuss the issues so that their stay in Cameroon can be regularised.
