Results of the 2013 session of the First School Leaving Certificate were published on June 26. The anxiety that gripped parents and candidates who sat the 2013 session of the First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) and its Francophone equivalent,
"Certificat d'études Primaires," CEP, in the South West region over the publication of results, has subsided. This follows the publication of results on Wednesday June 26, by the Minister of Basic Education.
According to the results, the performance of candidates in the South West at the end of course examination for primary schools records a 93.82 percent pass as against 90.20 percent in 2012, thereby witnessing an increase of 3.62 percent. According to a press release signed by the South West Regional Delegate of Basic Education, some 25,135 candidates actually sat for the examination, out of which 23,578 are declared successful.
For the CEP, 853 sat for the examination with 834 scoring pass marks giving a percentage pass of 97.77 as against 91.67 last year. The CEP in the South West Region has thus witnessed a 6.1 percent increase.
For the Regional Delegate of Basic Education for the South West, Joseph Njika, hard work is the major ingredient that accounts for the success rate at the FSLC in the region. The drop in performance at the Common Entrance examination spurred them up while the teachers and other education stakeholders also went back to the drawing board, he maintained.
Njika availed himself with the opportunity to congratulate teachers and parents for their inputs that accounted for the huge success at the FSLC. With the publication of the FSLC results, all is now set for the successful candidates to begin enrolling into secondary schools or vocational training centres across the nation.
