Egypt, the youngest team in the competition defeated reigning champions Angola 53-52.
The result ends Angola’s 18-game winning streak at AfroBasket Women competition dating back to 24 September 2011 when they won their first continental championship.
In Group A highly anticipated game of the day, Amina Njonkou made the most of the her strong build to destroy Gabon’s defense.
Njonkou inspired Cameroon with 12 points and 11 rebounds as the hosts eld on to a 67-56 victory.
Still in Group A, Djeneba N’Diaye, Mali’s youngest player, proved too much for Mozambique’s defense as they improved their mark to 3-1.
N’Diaye came off the bench with key plays, propelling Mali to a 57-52 victory.
Uganda won their first-ever game in the competition, beating South Africa 55-43.
Judith Nansobya made 3 of her 5 three-point attempts as Uganda improved theirAfroBasket Women 2015 Group A record to 1-3, while South Africa remained winless in four games.
Early in the day Guinea fought back to win their first game in the tournament, beating Algeria 67-66.
Mariama Toure led Guinea with a team-high 19 points to deny Algeria.
As hard as Lina Mahsas tried to keep Algeria’s in the lead Khady Mbaye sparked Guinea when it mattered most.
It was Guinea’s first-ever victory at AfroBasket Women.
