Fake military officer detained for duping Kumba pastor

A fake military officer, rumoured to be the grandson of a General of English speaking expression, is currently being detained in Kumba, Southwest Region for trying to dupe the senior Pastor of Paradise Baptist Church, Rene Uboh.

The “officer” was arrested Wednesday, October 15, 2014, in the pastors' Office, located on Paradise Street Fiango Kumba.

The suspect had come in to cash in on booty of FCFA 225,000 when the police swooped in on him.

The Post gathered that, the said “officer” had stormed the Pastors’ Office on Sunday, October 11, expressing his delight in the way God was using Pastor Uboh. Afterwards, he reportedly told the Pastor that, he had a problem with his ATM credit card, which has prevented him from withdrawing money.

Later, he pleaded with the Pastor to help him with FCFA 250,000 so that he could use it to solve the problem at the bank.

In response, the Pastor reportedly doled out FCFA 30,000 to the “trickster”. A few days later, the 'military man' resurfaced, requesting the account number of the pastor on grounds that; his mother in the United States of America wanted to reciprocate the kind gesture of the Pastor. But the man of God reportedly turned down the offer.

Recounting the incident, Pastor Uboh averred that, it was after the man had left that he went into prayers and God told him that it was a fake military officer. Having heard from God, Uboh said, he pretended as if nothing was happening.

The Pastor said he called the service of the Central Police Station Kumba and narrated the story to them. He said in the course of his narration, some officers on duty admitted knowing the fellow for conducting dubious deals.

Uboh further stated that, the man had presented himself as the person in charge of recruiting custom officers, promising to help three members of his congregation at the sum of FCFA 75000 per candidate.

It was the FCFA 225,000 that brought the fake officer to the Pastor's Office on Wednesday where the police arrested him.

The paradise Baptist church Pastor said he alerted the police because the person concern was tarnishing the image of Government and its service departments.
