The Presbyterian Church of Cameroonians in Belgium, on last Sunday May 25, celebrated their 10 years anniversary. It was a colourful ceremony that brought together Christians from all congregations of the Presbyterian church in Cameroon Belgium otherwise known as the Presbyterian Church Belgium vzw, as well as other denominations.
At about 11:30 am, a group of men and women were seen in front of the Bredabaan 280 all clad in the white anniversary T -shirt that bore the logo of the church and the theme of the anniversary which read "in the footprints of saints" Isaiah 35:8, in a procession into the main church.
The celebration started with a church service presided over by Rev.Woyu Fabian who had travelled all the way from Finland to minister on this special day. In his homily Rev. Woyu preached the message of unity and reconciliation urging Christians to forgive one another. It must be noted that the journey to these 10 years has not been an easy one for the Christians especially as the church had witnessed some difficult moments.Perhaps the vision that was set aside during the inception of the church some 10 years ago in Antwerp has been the linchpin that has kept the church intact.
That vision from the very beginning was to bring together Christians from Cameroon with a Presbyterian background to begin and sustain a mutual relationship with Christ Jesus in a way that was much familiar to them;that is the liturgy and singing style.
Prior to the setting up of this church, most of them had found themselves in a spiritual vacuum within the European context and the jumping from one church to the other in a bid to fill their spirituality.
"Nostalgia should be the right word to describe the feeling that the Christians were confronted with, when familiar and popular hymns were sung during some social activities that were organized by other Cameroonians or cultural groups. This was one of the push factors that led to the formation of the church here in Antwerp, Belgium" Mr. Akaya George , pioneer Vice Chairman of PC Antwerp recounted.
