Film stakeholders showcase talents

They staged a march in Douala ahead of the International Festival of Short Movies holding in the city.

The International Festival of Short Movies (FICOD) holding in Douala from June 29 to July 2, 2016, seeks to promote the emergence of new cinema talents.

Some 23 local and six foreign movies will be projected in the French Cultural Centre in Akwa to spice activities like lectures by producers, cinematographers and broadcasters.

The objective is to bring together stakeholders to get to know each other and sign production and marketing contracts, among others.

However, the film industry faces challenges such as quality and competition, requiring keener attention from all stakeholders. Also, the closure of cinema halls has not helped matters.

But government since 2012 has been working to ensure that closed halls are reopened. “We have to work on our weaknesses with the goal of improving.

This will be seen in the quality of our movies. Cameroon has high-level production. I have the firm assurance that Cameroon can do better,” the Regional Delegate of Arts and Culture for the Littoral, Michel Ndoye Messi, said while receiving leaders of the National Film Industry of Cameroon, NAFIC, in Bonanjo, Douala, on June 28, 2016, after the march.
