They are known as B. Rich and Jay Milly and come from Buea in the South West Region of Cameroon. Masters Students (one in economics and one in Accounting), they always managed to combine music and studies to perfection.
The duo, Fluri Boyz is set to shake the ‘Hangout’ stage on November at the Solomon Tandeng Muna Foundation alongside Gasha, SINE, Michael Kiessou and many others.
Interview:
Q: Fluri Boyz in the building.
A: (laughs) Yeah! Thanks Culturebene and thank you to all our fans who read us.
Q: You are young, talented, and above all authors of ‘Marabout’ the single that has been humming for some time in the capital; what is the reason for your visit to Yaoundé?
A: We are first of all very excited and also very moved to see so much enthusiasm expressed towards us. We were acclaimed for the second edition of the Solomon HANGOUT Tandeng Muna Foundation this Saturday, November 29 at 19h. We were present when the first edition was held last August.
Q: You certainly will not be alone...
A: Indeed, the HANGOUT is a platform that promotes young talents in the country. The second edition of this great event brings together the crème de la crème such as Gasha, Sine and Michael Kiessou who are the headliners. And then Zayox, O'Konnor, Young Muky, Ewube, Dewa, Tady Diallo, Cool Kid and many others . The central theme of this second celebration is "For the Youth of our bled (hometown)".
Q: We can already imagine the show.
A: We promise to perform to meet the expectations of the public. It is expected that many will attend the event on November 29 at the Solomon Tandeng Muna Foundation. They will wee us perform on Marabou on Thursday night, and also our last single ‘Wadjo’ which we are currently shooting.
Q: If you had to introduce yourself, what do we have to know about Fluri Boyz?
A: We are both Masters students at the University of Buea in Accounting and Economics. We do our best to combine music and studies although the studies come first since we believe before becoming artistes, it is important that we be respected as intellectuals because many people still have prejudice about artistes.
Q: You are so young, but already sought after by many. It is said that a contract is even being finalized.
A: (Laughs) Yes sure, it has been two years since we got signed with Richard Ewane and we are one of the best voices with STM Records. He found that we are good, and that our music goes a long way. So already at the base and an accompanying support of young talents, he told us of his willingness to sign with us. For us it was amazing, we could not believe it. It is STM RECORDS, the label that signed a big brother we respect enormously, SINE. So we feel fortunate to have been signed in one of the best and big few labels in the country.
Q: You mention Dj VYBZ so much in your songs that we thought he was one of you.
A: (Laughs) No, at all; Dj VYBZ is our Official Dj and resides in the United States side. This is one of the few who believed in us from the beginning and to this day he is the one who signs our prods. He is a big brother who has great respect and high esteem. Big Up to the Next Generation structure.
Q: And how do you agree on your titles?
A: It's easy. As soon as one has inspiration, there is a logical result because we correspond. An example is the title Marabout. AS soon as one of us said Marabout, the other suggested ‘Mami Wata’, etc. That is how we write our songs.
Q: How long have you been together?
A: Almost seven years. We have known each other for a long time anyway. We grew up together. But it was Jay Milly who launched the music first.
