The first edition of the MTN Zik Awards held last Friday the 17th of June at Prince De Galle; Douala. The MTN Zik awards was held to honour the Cameroonian artistes who have had the most downloads on the MTN Zik platform.
It was hosted by MTN Ambassador, the multi-talented; Sophy Aiida, who alongside the DJ/VJ of the night; DJ Cyrius Black, made sure there was never a dull moment throughout the night.
The event kicked off with a performance from the don for kwata true legend himself; Spido.
He energized the whole audience with his performance of his hit song; 'Tu as kel tête'. Proceeding that;
Paddy Foks; a Cameroonian artist who started his career in Namibia but who is back here. He performed his new single titled 'Lambo Love.'
His performance was followed by a speech from the MTN Brand Manager; Patrick Epee, who welcomed and appreciated the audience for honoring their invitation.
Then Mr.Lambert, who is the MTN marketing manager in charge of the MTN Zik platform, took the stage to enlighten everybody present about the MTN Zik Platform.
He said the MTN Zik platform was launched to help promote Cameroonian artistes and also to give them another means of making money from their craft.
He said since its conception, the MTN Zik platform has had over 4 Million MTN subscribers, over 80,000 downloads with over 500 artistes.
Mr. Thomas Nsongka of AIM Concepts; a company that subscribes artistes to the MTN Zik platform, also took to the stage to inform artistes on how to subscribe to the MTN Zik Platform and the importance of doing so.
Another marketing manager of MTN, Mrs Marie Rose, also took the stage to inform the audience about the future of MTN Zik, and how much more MTN is willing to support artistes.
To download the platform, you have to be an MTN subscriber and then dial *8706# , then you would be registered on the platform. Upon registration on the platform you then dial *146# to get the list of songs available on the platform, from which you would proceed to download the ring back tone of your favorite artiste.
Then Camer's dancehall diva; Ewube, lit the stage with a performance of her hit song; Trowey. Then, the handing over of the awards proceeded. The awards were all presented by a Cameroonian veteran artiste, a woman who has been in the game for 30 years, one who genuinely loves and supports young artistes; mama Annie Anzouer.
The 10th Award was handed to Ewube, she collected her award with dancing!
The 9th Award was handed to Dynastie Le Tigre, he thanked MTN for the award and urged them to accompany it with a cash price.
The 8th Award was handed to Jovi. In his absence the award was received by a staff member of the organizing committee.
The 7th Award was handed to Papi Anza, he smiled to the stage and collected his award.
The 6th Award was handed to Salatiel, he emphasized on the joy and happiness that music brings, the hard work that artistes put in to give us good music and he urged the audience to respect artistes.
After the first 6 awards were handed, Salatiel and Ewube rendered an emotional tribute to mama Anne Marie Nzie and Papa Wemba.
The 5th Award was handed to Locko, he told the audience that our local artistes have what it takes to be international and all they need is our support.
The 4th Award was handed to Les Featurist. The duo smiled to the stage and collected their award.
The 3rd Award was handed to Mr. Leo, his award was collected by his boss/business partner and friend; Salatiel. Mr.Leo showed up at the event later on.
The 2nd Award was handed to Stanley Enow. He was represented by his brother; Motherland Empire Boss; Martin Enow.
The 1st award was handed to Franko. He thanked the audience and MTN for their support, and assured the audience that Cameroonian music has taken over.
Then of course he entertained the crowd by dancing his hit song; 'Coller la Petite' with Mama Annie Anzouer on stage.
