The national organising committee of the Miss Cameroon yearly beauty pageant, led by Solange Ingrid Amougou was in Douala last Saturday June 22. This was during regional auditioning of candidates for the Grand Littoral, comprising of the Littoral and South West Regions, ahead of the Grand Finale scheduled on August 8 at the Yaounde Conference Centre.
After a pre-selection of potential Miss Cameroon, a total of 13 female contestants, being six for the Littoral and seven for the South West Region, were shortlisted. Laure Meyisaa Bouya emerged as Miss Littoral, with Mack Louise Essangui and Ghislaine Pobeth as first and second runners up. Meanwhile, Lynda Ngoungoure will represent the South West Region, accompanied by Sandrine Befolo and Bodianga Bodi, being first and second runners up, respectively.
Programmed in three stages, the candidates were evaluated for their natural beauty, personal hygiene, oral expression capacities with mastery of the two official languages being an advantage. The first stage consisted of a parade in traditional outfits, representing the cultural values of their regions of origin.
The second task included a parade in swimsuits, aimed at examining the natural beauty of the queens. Lastly, after a walk in party wear, the contestants were faced with an oral presentation of their objectives as potential Miss Cameroon. Their preoccupations highlighted the fight against unemployment among youth, encourage education of the physically challenged and promote culture and tourism, amongst others.
Candidates for the Miss Cameroon competition are entitled to represent their regions of origin. Aged between 18 and 28 years old, the contest is opened to female Cameroonians of both French and English expression, with a specific plan of actions, if selected. The 2013 edition will equally mark the event's 10th anniversary aimed at selecting the most beautiful girl in Cameroon, to represent the country beyond at home and abroad within one year.
