Musical Arts - Producers Want Sector Revamped

The Minister of Arts and Culture held a meeting with producers of musical works on January 22.

The role of music producers and publishers of musical works in Cameroon is officially implemented in the panorama or calendar of musical arts in Cameroon.

This was the outcome of a meeting between the Minister of Arts and Culture, Ama Tutu Muna and members of the Syndicate of Producers and Publishers of musical works yesterday January 22, 2014 in Yaounde. The meeting which lasted for close to three hours was an opportunity for the members to present their present their problems to the minister and to ask for assistance from the ministry to enhance their activities.

At the end of the closed door meeting the spokesperson, Paul Etoundi Onambele, alias Krotal, told journalists that the problems faced by the musical arts sector include piracy, quality and education among others. He said that sector needs to be revamped to enable them work freely and attain the expected level of excellence. He further said officially, they are supposed to work with the Ministry of Arts and Culture and that in the months ahead the syndicate intends to carry out concrete actions on the field to ensure a bright future for musical arts in Cameroon. He said production is the heart of musical arts and culture. "It is our sector of activity. What we put in front is the artiste. We are in the background. But don't forget that everything passes through the producers," he said.

Meanwhile Minister Ama Tutu Muna granted audience to two German experts in archives in her cabinet. The aim of the visit was to seek ways of improving archives in Cameroon.
